I: Introduction

Digital version of the Materials section of the treatise "Acoustics of the Vowel – Preliminaries": replication and extension

As mentioned in the title page, this online presentation is a replication of the Materials section—as one of three sections—of the treatise entitled "Acoustics of the Vowel – Preliminaries", published as eBook and printed book.

This replication and extension of the Materials allows for additional information concerning the acoustic analysis of the vowel and speech sounds presented and for a further extension of citations, comments and sound examples. Moreover, the user interface of the sound archive supports interactive grouping of examples which may be of interest for comparisons not considered in the treatise (above all, see Search sound and Lightbox in the menu of the sound archive).

Structure

The Materials section contains selected excerpts from the literature and additional comments, and it presents exemplary series of vowel sounds and related results of acoustic analyses:

• The first part contains selected excerpts from the literature that are related to the first part of the main text.
  
• The second part contains selected excerpts from the literature as well further indications and discussions relating to the second part of the main text.
• The third part presents exemplary series of vowel sounds and related acoustic analyses linked to the third part of the main text, including further indications on previously published data.

Extension

In each of the chapters and sections, first, the corresponding text in the book is given. For sections M7.1 to M10.A, secondly, the links to the figures are listed.

Thirdly, additional citations, comments and examples of sound spectra will be added step by step, and they will be assigned with the date of upload.
